Month to Month

Our lease ends in 30 days. After much debate, we decided not to renew our lease, and go month to month (which, unfortunately is $200 more expensive). We are viewing a couple condos on Saturday, and if all goes well, we'll end up getting one. You see, then, how a 12 month lease would be inconvenient.

I didn't get into SDSU. We'll see what happens...

Botched Dye Job

Got a major trim yesterday. I had them cut several inches off, because it was frizzy and thin and sad at the bottom. For one day, I had flouncy, mousy blond hair. I ruined that as quickly as possible by having an at-home dye session. The pictures don't really depict how yellow it really is. I've dyed my own hair a hundred times before, and it's never done this.

I guess I just have to wait a couple weeks, so I can dye it again without going bald. This is such a non-human color. Advice on how to tame yellow locks?

Spring Break

Saturday - drove up to LA for Taylor and Shelby's open house. We were really late, and we took my brother (uninvited) with us, as there was nothing else for the poor kid to do. He got dinner out of it, so he was happy. We got to socialize with some of Conrad's family members that we haven't seen in a while.

Sunday - went to church at my parent's ward, always a weird experience. Made chicken curry, rice, and caprese salad for my family (including Nana and Papa) for dinner. Later, Allison and Shaun came over and we all made cookies, played brain teasers and giggled like children. We were going to drive home today, but it was really late and pouring rain. We figured it'd be safer if all the other drivers weren't as drowsy as we were. So we stayed another night.

Monday - marked the end of the second year we've been married! We got a big breakfast at IHOP, then drove the drive. The whole 2 hours of the car ride, we played the "guess who i'm thinking about" game. It's pretty hilarious. Some of the particularly tough ones were Nana from Peter Pan, Kim Jong Il, Conrad's aunt Phyllis. When we got home, we unpacked, told Ninners we missed him, and showered. Why is it that showering when I'm out of town doesn't even get on the list of "things I might want to do"? We were extra grungy from not showering for a few days. Then we decided to see a movie and get really good sandwiches from the Icebox (I had a groupon). We saw Limitless, then hung out at his parent's for the rest of the night.

Tuesday - I can hardly account for yesterday's hours. I did laundry, went to the library, had Rice-a-roni for lunch, cleaned the house a little, but really, it's all a blur. Probably because I watched a shameful amount of Ugly Betty.

Today - I'm vowing to make up for yesterday's lack of productivity. I will do homework (on Spring Break, might I add; I should be getting major points for that), I will get everything ready for Sunday (sign-up sheets, surveys, etc.), I will call/email everyone I need to.

Change of Plan

I meant to post this here yesterday, but I accidentally posted it onto my other blog. So here you go:

I was planning on spending the day (yes, all 15 hours of it) in front of the computer, being a dork and not doing anything. Then I got called in to work, and was honestly grateful that I wouldn't have to sit around all day. I would have gotten sucked into Wikipedia, Hulu, and Youtube vortexes, and ended up feeling gross about myself all weekend.

Yay for having stuff to feel good about!

Tomorrow I have tutoring in the morning, then we leave for LA for Taylor and Shelby's reception. I'm so excited to see my family (the one I was born into and the one I married into).

Karma for Ninners' foot

I hate complaining on blogs/facebook. But I deserve it today.

Last night, I was so excited to see Conrad. I was sitting in my computer chair, waiting for him to come home, and just chilling on the computer. I heard him try to open the door, and I got up to go run toward him and give him a big greeting, when my computer cord got wrapped around my big toe. I ran, pulling the cord hard, tripped myself, kicked the leg of a stool really hard, and fell. Conrad heard my yip, opened the door, and found my cursing and crying, holding my foot.

All I wanted to do was run and jump on him and kiss him! I thought I had broken my toe. Now I just think I jammed it really hard. There's a bunch of fluid build up, its swollen and bruised, and full of pressure. It hurts to walk on, and hurts to not walk on. In this situation, I find myself very lucky to work in a podiatrist office, where they can check out my foot in a couple minutes, without me having to make an appointment.

Also, I slept through my science class. And got a hideous glasses tanline yesterday.

Days like this make me want to eat brownies, popcorn, raspberry herbal tea, and a big block of cheese. I'll be fine if I just have the cheese, though.

No purchase necessary

I'm a huge trader/barterer/lover of free stuff. Look at the glorious loot we were given tonight! We now have 3 surf boards, 3 wet suits, 1 spring suit, a pair of booties for both of us, 1 boogie board, a pair of fins (way too big), bootie socks, and tons of wax. Most of it was free (for us).

Now all I need is therapy so I can stop having panic attacks every time I get in the water.

In no particular order

I'm a big list-maker. Probably the biggest. I save scratch paper, just because I'm aware of how much paper I'd waste just making lists. I saw this notepad and simply had to have it.

If post-its weren't so dang expensive ($6, really?), I'd have them stuck all over everything to remind me of what I need to do, who I need to call, what I need to buy, etc. I also write down fun stuff I allow myself to do when the other stuff gets accomplished.

Here is my list today:
make Marketing cheat sheet
French HW
AC fluid
return the pet carrier
talk to leasing office
laundry
sign up for the project for science class
email a handful of people
make invitations to a church event
make homemade yogurt
call another handful of people
get the little bandages for Ninners
put a splint on Ninners' foot
do the volcano extra credit
figure out meals for the rest of the week

Well, at least the dishes are done.

A rough day for everyone

This weekend was great. We hung out with friends, ate at Chipotle, spent Saturday at the beach, and had lots of relaxation. Just to shake things up, Ninners had to go and break his little foot.

This is what chinnie hind feet look like normally. They are long and kangaroo-like.

Here's what happened: I had his cage open (like I often do). The door folds downward into a ramp. He came out, and I tried to hold him. He got scared and tried to run back into his cage, but his long little foot got stuck between the bars in the ramp. His fright was exponentially increasing, so he pulled really hard, and his foot broke (picture it like it now has an elbow; totally bent).

I immediately started crying and being hysterical and calling animal emergency rooms. Meanwhile, Ninners was handling it like a champ. He never screamed or winced if I touched him. He totally knew how he should handle it. Conrad convinced me that it wasn't my fault, and that chinnies break their legs all the time, even just from jumping.

Anyways, we went to bed, and I hardly slept at all. I kept dreaming that something else bad happened to Ninners. In one dream, he ran away because he didn't want me to be his owner/friend anymore because I broke his leg. This morning my eyes are stinging because I cried so much last night. I'm telling you, I develop a weird attachment to animals.

The good news is as follows:
- There is no open wound, so it won't get infected
- Ninners is keeping his leg very guarded against the cage so nothing bumps it
- He still allows us to pet him
- He is still able to move around. He can get to his food and water, but he limps like the Hunchback.
- He doesn't show how much pain he's in (though I'm practically dying of guilt since I think he's in a lot of pain)
- We think that if we don't hold him, but keep petting him and keep him used to human contact, that his leg will heal and he'll be ok. That's how it would be in nature, right?

I woke up and have just been really sensitive all day. Any mention of a pet, and I well up. I think I'm being a bigger wuss about it than Ninners.

Pray for Ninners's foot so he can keep living a pampered, well-fed life in our home! No infections!

Let the sun shine

Oh glorious day. I had no homework, my tutoring session was cancelled, and Conrad had nothing going on. We went to the beach from 10 to 1, and we would have stayed longer, but a giant seagull dropped a huge, frothy dose of bird diarrhea on both of our towels. Luckily, none of it was on our bodies. However, by this point, the waves were beginning to get choppy, so we just figured we'd pack up (since, obviously, we could no longer lay on our towels). We came home and laid out by the pool for another few hours, and now we're getting Chipotle with a couple friends.

I'm so excited for it to be this warm everyday.

Not one for discipline

I'm a big library goer. Why buy a book if you're only going to read it once? I'm also a big French enthusiast, and a fierce eater. Basically, if you know those 3 things about me, you know almost all the big stuff.

So whilst perusing my local 'brarie, I stumbled across this little livre. I checked it out, thinking, just based on the cover, that I was about to get an insightful look at French cuisine. While true, it's more a book of learning to control indulgences (something I haven't been super disciplined on since I got married). I haven't gained 30 lbs or anything, but 5-10 lbs on a small frame really shows.

One of the other big things about me: I'm not so keen on self-deprivation or discipline. I just hate working out and dieting. I mean, really. Je deteste la. This book is really what I need to learn to catch myself when going back for another cookie, or another helping of pasta, or several sodas. Indulgence is good. C'est tres francaise. But not if you indulge all the time. Then it just becomes bad habit.

I'm slowly trying to make mental changes. There are a bunch of recipes in the book, too, for healthy French food. This book might be one for keeping.

On another note, just thought I'd share what an amazing day it is. Isn't it supposed to be winter? I can see the ocean. Mmmmm.
