San Diego Jellyfish

I'll be in Pacific Beach this weekend, soaking up the sun's rays, going for long walks, and trying to heal my jellyfish sting.

The Jellyfish Story (since I know you're dying to know)

We went for a long walk (almost 4 miles, I think) on the beach last night. We wanted to get some ocean water on our feet, since it's been a particularly warm year. It's also been particularly kelpy and jellyfishy.

The waves carry in large kelp patches. Sometimes there are things other than kelp in there. One of the waves  washed past my legs, and with it, a patch of kelp and sea grass. And a jellyfish.

I felt it sting me right away, and it surprised me. I jumped away because I didn't know exactly what it was, or if it would happen again.

If you're about to pity me, don't. A bee sting hurts worse than this. Mostly it feels like a super itchy mosquito bite, only in a lash shape instead of a dot.

I did not pee on it. I did not let anyone else pee on it. The pain is not worth URINE on my body. If it was way worse, I'd consider it.

It's not a very exciting story. Hopefully I'll have some awesome pictures by the end of the weekend!

  1. I wouldn't let someone pee on me either. Not worth the gross factor.

  3. haha Sounds like you got lucky! I was stung by one as long as I was tall on my 10th birthday. We were out on our boat heading to one of my favorite restaurants on a Key and we stopped, I jumped it, swam from the bow to the stern of the boat and right as I was putting my hand on the ladder to climb in it got me. I thought I was being eaten by a shark!! lol And so did everyone else in the water.

This was long before everyone knew to pee on jelly fish stings, or I'm sure my Dad would have taken up the charge right away. I got soooo sick right away and had to go to the hospital to get the stingers removed. Needless to say, it ruined my birthday. :P

I wonder if yours was just residual from it being dead, cause I've heard they can be nasty out on the West Coast??

  5. This story reminds me of that Friends episode. Okay, but yours is real life. I am about 99.9% sure I would not let anyone pee on me no matter how bad the pain was. I guess you never know unless you in that situation.

  7. Ha ha - of course we're all thinking about the Friends episode! I'm a wimp, so I'll admit it - if pee takes away pain, bring it on. Just sayin'.
