Uplifting blogs vs. "train wreck" blogs

Ha!

We've all seen it. That blog. The blog that contains endless posts of complaining, self-embarrassment, and hilarious bitterness.

And we love it. It's relatable.

But what about when the blogger writes a long, ranting post, only to delete it ten minutes later, post a follow-up post, and explain that they deleted the post because someone said something mean? I've seen a couple blogs do this, one of which has done it multiple times, and it makes me want to unfollow them.

If you are going to use your blog as a rant venue, you need to have thick enough skin to handle the comments that might follow. Am I right?

Then there are blogs which have an intense spiritual/religious undertone in every post. We've all seen them.

And we love it. Again, it's relatable, but it's also uplifting. It reminds us to be grateful and positive.

I'll be honest, though. Sometimes I'd rather read the gritty blogs.

What about you guys? Do you prefer the uplifting blogs, or the [usually funnier] ranting blogs?

  1. Hmmm I like both. I might lean towards the funnier blogs a little more though.

  2. Oh man. I'm so fired - I LOVE train wreck blogs. That sounds horrible. I just love reading about other peoples drama, their struggles - and hopefully their humorous way of looking at their 'problems'. It's nice to escape from my 'problems' and relate with another blogger.

  3. I would have to say a mix of both in one blog is always good to me. I want to know you are a real person, share some train wreckage! But share some uplifting too!

  4. I must say, I like to read a mix of both. Not every persons life is magical and happy all of the time! :)

  6. haha depends on the day! I think most of the time I like uplifting, but there are a couple I go to to get some good laughs, especially when I'm having a bad day! I know, I know, it's horrible :)

  7. I love both, but the ones that are too upbeat (i.e. look at all this beautiful stuff I made and pinned to Pinterest, and here are some photos of my very neat home and kids playing the violin and reading Plato) make me wonder if it's all an act). As long as the blogger is honest, I'm game. Love the EE card photo you used.

I'm stopping by from the Friday Chaos Blog Hop

  8. amen! but i do like to see that the blogger is a real person too! but I don't want to see it ALL the time in one blog! but, yes, thick skin is a must. There are some bloggers who just don't care about any ones feelings!

  10. I tend to gravitate towards those gritter blogs too... It's not so much like I'm watching because I think their a trainwreck so much as I like to read along and encourage people when I can or lend a kind word when someone needs it... I can certainly appreciate some of those spiritual/religious blogs with their uplifting messages (although, I'll be honest... if someone's using too strong of religious language, I do tend to wander away... ) but I get a lot more out of reading along with bloggers who are dealing with tough issues and who are honest about it.
