Intuition

This place. AmIright? I'm itching for summer already. I'm also just plain itching because my skin is stretching and I have too much estrogen, but that's a tale for another day.

Yesterday I woke up and I could tell right away that if I stayed home and watched TV or computed all day, that I'd feel really sick. So I decided I needed to get out of the house. I headed out around 9, picked up some breakfast at McD's, then ran to Target for some toilet paper. Because toilet paper is not like milk, where you can survive without it for another day or two. Then I got this feeling that I should go see Conrad. I drove up to his work, just to see if he was there, and I saw his truck. Then I saw him. He looked like he was having a rough morning. He saw me drive up and his face lightened. He got in the car and we chatted and kissed for a minute or two. Then I got out of the car and left.

His proverbial cloud had been lifted, simply by seeing a happy, loving face. I was thinking later about the initial feeling I had, "Go visit your love." Was that intuition? Was it the spirit telling me he needed me to make him feel better? Was I just guessing? Did baby want to be near Daddy (just kidding)? Whatever it was, I'm glad I followed the prompting.

You hear stories about people who followed promptings and ended up saving someone's life or avoiding disaster, but what about those small, every-day promptings we all have that just tell us to help someone, or call someone, or visit someone? Those are equally huge in a lot of ways. Conrad said my little surprise drop-in was totally what he needed. I'm glad I was able to influence his mood positively (sometimes, as wives, we may not always be "lifters").

Have you ever had an experience where you followed a feeling that ended up helping someone? Have you ever been on the receiving end of a prompting? Tell me about it in the comments!

  1. Oh yeah! All the time. I know it sounds so cheesy but I think it's really important to listen to your intuition. Sometimes, if I feel like I should do something and I do it, things turn out amazing or we end up saving ourselves from trouble. Example, my husband wanted to stay home all night one night and I had made plans to go out. I really thought we should go and I talked him into it. When we got out to the car the battery was dead. It was good for us to find this out before he was late to work in the morning so we were happy. One time I didn't listen to my intuition. I had a feeling we should go drop off our rent check. I ignored that thought because it would have been a 1 hour trip (30 minutes there and 30 minutes back). I wish I would have listened because the Post Office lost our check and we had to pay a huge late fee. It basically sucked. Moral of the story, I now always listen to that little voice. You never know how much heartache it might save you!

  2. I couldn't help but notice you mentioned being itchy. It'll only get worse. Try Gold Bond Cream. You can get it at any Walgreens or Target or pretty much anywhere. I hope it helps, because that was definitely one of the WORST parts of my pregnancy. Go buy some and see if it helps! :-)

On a different note, one weekend I attended a special RS meeting during which we were given key-chains to attach to our purses. One side had a picture of Christ, and the other side said "You are a "purse"onal daughter of God." I felt a prompting to take an extra key-chain and mail it to my sister with my notes and impressions from the meeting. I followed the prompting. A week later my sister texted and told me what an awful week she'd been having when my letter arrived. It cheered her right up and she was SO grateful. We all need a reminder sometimes that Jesus Christ loves each and every one of us individually and by name. He knows our needs and wants. I was glad that I could help my sister in that way even though our schedules are crazy and we don't get to talk much.

  3. Oh my goodness I had that happened to me. I was headed to Cocoa Beach with a friend when all of a sudden we changed plans and went to Daytona. It was a good thing we did because this elderly lady fell and we called 911 for her. Who knows how long she would have been out there if we didn't switch plans? So crazy.
